Austin Band Portrait (Churchwood)

portrait of austin band churchwood

I photographed the Austin based band Churchwood the other night. We were lucky to be able to do the shoot in the empty house of guitarist
Bill Anderson who was moving to the other side of town the next day. I love the stark setting and noirish feel to this image and the separation
that shooting through the window provided.

I would recommend that you check out Churchwood live and also on the web here to listen to some of their music.  Their delta blues inspired
sound is really exciting and will definitely get your feet moving.

Austin Texas Portrait Photography Series #58 (Bill)

bill anderson of churchwood portrait

I took this shot of Bill Anderson while on the way to see his band Churchwood play at Red 7.
Churchwood’s set was really impressive. I suggest you check out some of their music here. I would also suggest getting yourself down to Hole in the Wall
on February 13th for their next show. You won’t be disappointed.

There are certain people whose photo I just love taking. And laura, and her alter ego Luna, is near the top of my list.  The other day, I got the urge to take some photos and called laura up to set a time. After hanging out at her house, shooting the breeze and taking some photos, laura changed into this outfit and became luna. It seemed like our destiny that we would end up at the carousel lounge midday on a wednesday. My photographic mind just goes crazy when I walk into a dive bar. So, here are two from our shoot at the carousel. I’m happy to report that my track record for perfect portraits of laura remains intact. Until next time.

Katrina Ford of Celebration

Katrina was in Los Angeles to sing with TV on the Radio for a few shows. I took her portrait in Franklin Reservoir, a beautifully wooded lake, not far from where we were all staying. I just love how sublime it is there and Katrina was the perfect subject for this location. Spiritually and photographically it worked for her. I just love this photo. For me, it exudes such strength and attitude.

If you are not familiar with the band Celebration who Katrina sings for, you should check them out on myspace here and their band website here. They are a unique talent hailing from Baltimore. If you were at SXSW this year, you might have caught one of several shows they played while in Austin.

TV on the Radio

I went to go see TV on the Radio last night at the Glass House in Pomona. It was opening night of two months of touring for the band. It was a fun night with a 3 piece horn section backing them and Katrina Ford of Celebration singing along. Catch them in a city near you. You can find the tour schedule here. They will also be performing on Jay Leno this Friday. Tune in.
